Unoccupied let properties
No landlord or let property owner likes a vacant property but sometimes its a fact of property renting. Tenants can move unexpectedly leaving you with no one in the property. You can also experience an unoccupied property at the end of one tenancy and the begin of another. Another cause could be if you plan to sell the property or during renovations.
Many insurers class an unoccupied property as a higher risk than one that is populated with good tenants. For this reason you should always get in touch with your let property insurer to check if your policy covers you during this period.
Some insurers will give you between 30 - 60 day grace period whilst you find new tenants but please do check as each insurer varies. Similarly if you are renovating you should contact your landlord insurance provider. Properties are often not covered by conventional let property insurance during this period.
