This is now a Class A problem
Police have issued a warning out to landlords and letting agents in order for them to help detect drug farms in rented houses.
Since the beginning of 2008 over 1,500 cannabis plants, worth thousands of pounds have been seized from houses in the Forest Heath district. Seventeen houses in this district have been found to have cannabis “factories” within there closed doors, this has ranged from a couple of plants to four-hundred.
It was discovered that in some cases electricity meters were bypassed in order to set up all the necessary for growing the plants. On top of this illegal activity it was found that the wiring used for this was a danger, putting the property and those surrounding it at risk.
There is a special guide designed to help landlord and letting agents offering one-to-one advice from Safer Neighbourhood Team Officers.
