Opportunity for landlords in the student market
There has always been a stereotype when it comes to students and renting properties, that they are late with rent, messy and unreliable. But according to new research landlords are now keen to let their property out to property searching students. The recession, the on-going problem in the UK, still has a firm grip on our finances, but this does not stop the number of student applying to university has risen by 8 meaning the demand for renting accommodation has increased.
This seems to be a goldmine for landlords and may well be a great investment for them but they need to be aware that certain stereotypes may well be true. It is important for landlords looking to tap into this business to be prepared for the worst. A couple of things landlords should take into consideration should include; increase monthly rental amount slightly, to ensure they have a little extra cash to prepare for any damage caused after the lease ends and have at least 3 months of mortgage payment set aside, in case of late rent.
