Licence taken from landlord due to unfit property

Blackpool council have taken the licence from a landlord after he continued to let out a property in South Shore. The property that had been declared unfit for use following a council crackdown on accommodation standards.

The three-storey property, which had been separated into five flats, was one of 26 privately rented properties in the area to be closed down. This property in particular had faulty electrics, no gas supply and did not comply with fire safety standards. The landlord had already been issued with notices following a previous visit by fire officials.

Blackpool city council, along with the fire Authority has been carrying out measures to drive up the standards of rented accommodation in the area, including fire safety systems.

Landlords that do not comply with their management responsibilities have to pay fines of up to £100,000. The landlord from South Shore has not been fined on this occasion, as he is unable to pay the fines, however his licence has been taken from him permanently.
