Letting agent convicts tenant of theft
A letting agent has successfully convicted a DSS tenant who stole the furnishings from a let property she was living in.
Ms Jones from Durham was evicted from the home which was let by East Durham Homes to Durham Council in 2008 due to unknown circumstances; however she decided that she would take the furniture package, which was provided to her by the council, when she left.
East Durham Council contacted the police who charged Ms Jones with theft. She was ordered to attend court on September 14 but never turned up. Police eventually found her after issuing a warrant for arrest and was later found guilty and ordered to pay £500 in compensation.
If you have problems with your tenants, you may want to consider rent guarantee cover or let legal when taking out your let property insurance from Insure My Let Property, for that extra protection.
