Let property landlord fined for not making gas safety checks
A Great Yarmouth landlord has been fined almost £25,000 and ordered to pay £13,500 in costs after being found guilty of breaching health and safety regulations at the 12 properties that he owns.
The landlord, a 34 yr old man from Kent, had failed to provide any written record for gas safety checks for any of his let properties, putting his tenants at risk from carbon monoxide poisoning.
The Health and Safety Executive decided to prosecute under the Health and Safety at work Act 1974, after repeated requests for the written proof went unanswered from February 2007 to July 2007.
Under the law all documents that relate to the inspection or work on gas boilers and appliances, by a Corgi registered installer, must be kept for inspection to show that adequate work has been taken out.
Making sure that your let property is up to current legislation standards is very important, as is having the correct insurance in place. At www.insuremyletproperty.co.uk you can be sure of getting a first class let property insurance policy from a panel of UK insurers.
