Landlords property fails health and safety regulations
Fines have been charged to a Landlord for the lack of health and safety implemented within his let property which he was renting to students in Newham.
Stratford Court heard how the landlord allowed a shared toilet to become covered in mould and the smoke detectors were not in working order. One smoke alarm inspected by the prosecutors was found to be operated by an 'Eveready Gold Seal' battery, a battery that has not been made available since the 80's, unsurprisingly it was dead.
The stair case in the property is very steep and under safety regulations there should be a handrail for support preventing anyone from falling, however the landlord had never fitted one, again breaking health and safety laws.
Newham council have prosecuted the East Ham landlord, who admitted to three counts of breaching the Management of Houses in Multiple Occupancy Regulations, leaving him with fines of over £6,000.
