Landlords fined for unsafe property
A property that had not been maintained by the landlords has been deemed as unsafe for the rental market, costing them £8,426 in fines.
The two landlords were found guilty by magistrates at Wirral court following numerous letters sent to them after an inspection on the home at Wellington Road, New Brighton by council officials was found to be hazardous. The home had serious faults which could have lead to fires and death; mould was found in the home due to a leaking roof, electrical boxes did not have the correct wiring and no fire exits were established.
Following inspections by Wirral council, they also requested evidence that the gas appliances had been checked by a Corgi registered engineer, however they were unable to provide a valid certificate for proof.
The landlords have refused to carry out any remedial work on the property, which has now been left for the council to sort out to ensure that the property is free of any hazards and complies with Health and Safety regulations.
