Council neglects fire measures

Tenants every year are put in danger by the incompetence of their landlords, it would seem that the latest batch of home renters were left vulnerable to the risks of fire as their landlord the Shropshire Council failed to have the proper fire checks administered.

The council's error was exposed under the freedom of information act where a total of 14 homes were discovered to be missing the correct paperwork. By law all properties managed by social housing authorities or councils should have a comprehensive selection of fire safety checks.

Shropshire Council released a statement owning up to their mistake yet they wished to emphasise that the properties in question fell into their "low" risk category. The portfolio holder, Mal Price said that he expected the inspections to be completed by January.

The council manages over 4,260 houses across the county and Price was keen to emphasise that houses which fell into a high or medium risk category had been risk assessed and any appropriate safety measures such as fire alarms had been installed.

Insure My Let Property provides comprehensive let property insurance to help protect against the damages of major perils of flood, fire, theft and storm.
